Thanks for the post Digger, but it still does not indicate that the screw cap is waterproof. He only says the screw cap will protect the phone connection from sand and grit. When he dunks the CTX he is using the waterproof phones. It might be okay if it gets splashed, but I don't think you would want to dunk it. So, the question remains, is there a way to make the phone connection screw cap waterproof?
It’s a “waterproof audio jack” that you can connect waterproof headphones to. It’s not a “waterproof screw cap”. The screw cap is for keeping the connector pins clean.
The connector is waterproof in itself and taking the CTX 3030 underwater without the protective cap will not damage the detector. As I said, the audio connector is waterproof and control box has a seal that is designed to keep water from getting into the control box electronics. Not the screw cap you put on the audio connector. However, if you don't use underwater headphones and don't put on the screw cap on the waterproof connector, you may contaminate the connector (contacts) with sand or grit. If those contacts become dirty, you may get intermittent audio when you do hook up the waterproof headphones or put the headphone module back on. Therefore, it is recommended that if you remove the headphone module, you either install the screw cap into the waterproof audio connector or use waterproof headphones, when you are using the CTX in the water.
